Scottish urban horror! Jenny Wi’ the Airn Teeth/The Gorbals Vampire. One night in September 1954, hundreds of children from as young as 4 years old embarked their way to the Southern Necropolis in Gorbals, Glasgow. They came armed with all sorts of makeshift weapons seeking to hunt out the Gorbals Vampire, a creature they had heard to have eaten two local children. The vampire was said to have iron teeth, stand over 7 feet tall and have blazing red eyes. Even the police and their school teachers couldn’t stop the children returning to hunt the vampire for many nights on end until they finally dispersed. ‘Jenny Wi’ the Airn Teeth’ is an 1870 Scots dialect poem by Alexander Anderson (which encouraged children to go to sleep or she’ll steal them from bed with her teeth), it was believed the poem may have had an influence over the children’s sudden mass vampire hunt. The mass vampire hunt is a true story, but what of the vampire?… 🤔💀💀💀
